Mark your calendars for this year's Junior League of San Diego (JLSD) Oktoberfest celebration at Tin Roof! This event supports JLSD’s focus area, food insecurity . The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Did you know 1 in 3 people in San Diego County are food insecure (source: San Diego Food Coalition)? That statistic is startling and a major reason why JLSD recently adopted food insecurity as our new focus area- to directly help our fellow San Diegans. Through community training, volunteerism with other food-oriented non-profits, and JLSD community projects (such as donation drives and Community Table- an upcoming program designed to teach those in need about nutritious cooking), we are able to do our part in helping those experiencing food insecurity.
