Description

GET THERE EARLY!!!  CHECK-IN OPENS AT 8:15AM Brought to by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and the School of Public Health at Brown University Join us for an exciting day of exposure to the field of medicine, mentorship, and networking, as we strengthen and diversify the future of healthcare. Students (boys & girls 3rd grade through college), parents, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders are welcome! In response to an alarming report highlighting the decreasing number of black men applying to medical school, we began Black Men In White Coats in 2013. We have worked closely with medical schools, high schools, and physicians to provide inspiration and mentorship to our youth who may be interested in healthcare as a profession. In October 2022, we will continue this work by bringing the providence community together for a full-day summit! Over the course of the day, participants will engage in hands-on activities and network with healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds. The goal is to inspire and show participants that though not many, there are people who look like them in this field, and with preparation and support, they can do it! This FREE program includes: A keynote address by Dr. Dale Okorodudu, founder of Black Men in White Coats; Talks by current medical students, resident physicians, and health care providers; “How to Raise a Doctor” session for parents and guardians. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. **Elementary students should bring a stuffed animal for an activity** Free parking is available. Accessible by RIPTA.
