Description

How is a century-old family-owned media company faring in the digital age? Pretty well, thank you. Crain Communications has been finding business niches since 1916 with well-known and respected business brands that include Automotive News, Advertising Age and Crain’s Detroit Business. But Crain also has invested in digital-only products in cannabis (The Green Report), genomic research (Genome Web) and even is a minority investor in a “business of sports” newsletter (Front Office Sports). There’s probably a Crain niche that touches on your company or your clients. The key is leveraging all tools to ensure that content – from newsrooms and from clients – relates to what the Audience, a.k.a. readers, needs and wants. Mary Kramer joined Crain Communications in 1989 as editor of Crain's Detroit Business. She went on to hold several senior roles, include VP/Group Publisher for Crain's city publications in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and New York. In 2021, she moved into new product development and successfully launched Crain Currency in 2022. She continues to direct Detroit Homecoming, an initiative to bring successful Detroit-area "expats" back to their hometown to re-engage with it revitalization. She also chairs the board of the Skillman Foundation. The latest and newest product, Crain Currency, serves wealthy families who want more than financial advice. They want peer-to-peer insights on managing wealth, legacies and interpersonal family dynamics.
