Description

TRUMBULL, CT — Trumbull will allow property taxes normally due on Jan. 1 to be paid as late as April 1 without interest. Gov. Ned Lamont issued an executive order that allowed towns to push the due date back due to the coronavirus pandemic and its economic effects. The decision mirrors a similar one made in 2020 to postpone mid-year tax due dates. First Selectman Vicki Tesoro said in a statement that many Trumbull residents and businesses are still struggling due to the pandemic. The postponement applies to the 3rd installment of the real estate tax, motor vehicle tax, supplemental motor vehicle tax, personal property tax and sewer assessment. More information from First Selectman Vicki Tesoro's office: Imposition of lien fees is not affected.Real estate accounts in escrow and paid by a bank are not eligible for this program. No application is necessary for taxpayers, including businesses, unless they are considered a landlord.Landlords must qualify to be considered eligible by filing an application with the Tax Assessor's Office. The application deadline is January 15, 2021. Questions: call the Tax Assessor's Office at 203-452-5016. All other questions: call the Tax Collector's Office at 203-452-5024. Taxpayers should further understand that January payments made after April 1, 2021 will bear interest at the rate of 1-1/2% per month, so that a payment made on April 2, for example, will require payment of 6% interest.
