Description
GAITHERSBURG, MD — A man rescued from a house fire in Gaithersburg late last year has died, a fire official said.
Montgomery County firefighters said they rescued the man from a basement during a townhouse fire at 854 Bayridge Drive on Dec. 2.
At the time, county fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said the fire was probably caused by a space heater in the basement. The space heater, he explained, was near a bed and ignited the bedding.
The man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns. He died on New Year's Eve, according to Piringer.
His identity has not been released.
The fire damage was estimated to be more than $500,000.
