Overview: West Parish Church of Andover is looking for a part-time Sexton. The Sexton is responsible for the general cleaning and maintenance of the building and grounds and ensures a safe and welcoming environment at church events. Maintenance requires making or overseeing repairs as needed. The sexton is also responsible for the setup and clean-up of the building as needed for Sunday Services and other congregational functions. The Sexton will report to the chair of the Operations Commission. Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED Building maintenance experience preferred Good communication skills Compensation: Hours: 8 to 10 hours per week including 3.5 hours each Sunday morning Salary: $25 per hour Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Basic upkeep and maintenance of the building which will include but not be limited to recycling and trash, maintaining outdoor grounds, shoveling walkways, cleaning bathrooms as needed after congregational events, monitoring kitchen cleanliness and functioning, ensuring the sanctuary and fellowship hall are properly set up to receive parishioners for church functions, ensuring passages and entries are clear, straightening utility areas and Fellowship Hall on a regular basis, supporting the preschool requests during academic months, changing light bulbs, making general repairs to building and outside structures, ensuring equipment (sinks, toilet, dehumidifiers, hot water heater etc) are functioning, providing seasonal upkeep as needed such as storm window and screen installation and removal. Monitoring and securing repair services for more substantial disrepair including reporting unsafe conditions, non-functioning equipment or other need for significant repairs to the chair of Operations Ministry, securing repair quotes if needed and supervising repair services. Note that the Church employs a cleaning service to handle most cleaning functions as well as a snow removal service. Update outdoor sign as necessary. Manage the annual fire alarm, elevator, and extinguisher inspection. Available to meet the needs of outside organizations, weddings, and funerals at agreed upon fees. Required to submit for a Massachusetts CORI review.
