Description

Permaculture is a system of land management that focuses on simple principles, strategies and solutions. By following the basic principles of permaculture anyone can have a bountiful garden and improve their soils health. The class will be taught by the owner of The Huffman Family Farm, Kathleen Huffman. Kathleen studied permaculture and water conservation under Toby Hemenway (author of Gaia's Garden) and Laura Allen (author of "Greywater Green Landscape") at Occidental Arts and Ecology in Occidental Ca. She spent several years designing and installing "food forests" with greywater/ bio-swale systems for local non-profits in the Solano Co. California area. Her farm in Choctaw Oklahoma is built on the principles and strategies of Permaculture and regenerative farming. Kathleen is also an advocate for "Kiss the Ground" a group that focuses on soil rehabilitation and regeneration. This seminar will cover the basic principles of permaculture and how we implement them on the farm. This is not intended to be a class for certification, but more of a starting point for those interested in learning about permaculture in general. We will start with a discussion on the principles themselves and then take a tour of the farm and see how the principles are applied in real situations.
