Description

The program will start in the Mansion (enter using the ramp to the left of the big wrought iron glass doors) at 3 pm with an introductory powerpoint program on the teahouse. This is followed by a short walk over to the Japanese Garden, which is next to Maria Hall, to learn about the elements of the garden landscape from Dr. Michael Gross and about the interior of the teahouse and how it looks set up for tea from Judith Krall-Russo, an expert in the centuries-old Japanese tea ceremony tradition. Dr. Sachiko Komagata will explain traditional Japanese dress and culture back in the mansion. The program will conclude with Ms. Krall-Russo conducting a tea ceremony featuring a variety of traditional Japanese teas and sweets for you to sample. In the event of heavy rain, the entire event will be held in the Mansion. The event will conclude between 4:30 and 5:00pm, and if you have a class that starts then, please feel free to leave the program early to make the beginning of your class.
