Description

The land bounding “Shreve Town” was sold by the indigenous Caddo Indians in 1835. The founding of Shreveport in 1836 and its development over the next one hundred years set the stage for architect Edward F. Neild and the implementation of Classicism in the city. Today, Shreveport’s historic Classical buildings reflect the spirit of individualism of North Louisiana through music, art, architecture and cultural heritage. This three-day foray will feature a lecture on North Louisiana by Guy Carwile, Professor at Louisiana Tech University; a lecture on Edward F. Nield with local architect, Chris Elberson of Somdall & Associates; a tour of Shreveport’s downtown classical buildings and classical residential homes by Liz Swaine, Executive Director of the Shreveport Downtown Development; a lunch and lecture with local historian Robert Trudeau about Shreveport’s historic cultural development and the Louisiana Hayride; a Renovator’s Happy Hour hosted at C&C Mercantile & Lighting by Lauren Ross; and a Sunday private tour of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.
