Join us in brewing together a magical night! Knox Crafts TN and Let Her Speak are bringing together local history, craft and women’s heritage for a seasonal spectacle!
We’ll summon up a tour and talk of local spiritualism, complete with inspired food and beverages as well as a DIY broom making workshop!
We’ll begin the evening with a tour led by Mabry-Hazen’s Iive in historian, Patrick Hollis. Patrick will walk us through the over a century old home and tell tales of Knoxville’s history as related to spiritualism, theosophy, and new ageism.
Next, we’ll head across the arboretum to craft our own take home broom and learn about the history of brooms and how they became synonymous between women and witches.
To conclude the evening, we’ll have an enchanting lecture led by our beloved UT Women’s Study professor, Dr Stehle. Her talk will explore how contemporary, pop-cultural depictions of witches rewrite well-known stories. Her talk is sure to be rebellious and decidedly feminist; and will bring to the surface history and stories of the how and why individuals continue to perpetuate stereotypes of witches brewing evil.
Food will be catered by Point B, and beverages will be flowing along side a few other tricks and treats.
Seats are limited, pre-registration is required, and we look forward to summoning a night of fun with all of you this Halloween season!
