Description

NC Cooperative Extension in cooperation with North Carolina Coastal Federation will have an in-person on the trail workshop to identify and remove invasive plants along the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail in Atlantic Beach. The trail head starts at the parking lot behind the Bojangles and is in the Atlantic Station Shopping Center. Hoop Pole Creek is a coastal creek, salt marsh and maritime forest preserve that continues to be rich with oysters, fish and other wildlife. Hit the trail with us to learn how to identify the differences between invasive plants and some native look alike plants. We will also remove several of the invasive plants from the area to make room for the natives. A few different methods of removal will be used including hand pulling small plants, using a special tool to help pull some of the larger plants and for the plants that are too big to pull, we will use a cut and paint method using a herbicide to ensure the plants don’t regrow. This entire event will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Closed-toed shoes and garden/work gloves are required. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
