Volunteer for Ride Out the Drought Kickoff

Santa Clara County is experiencing a severe drought. Valley Water, the water provider for all of Santa Clara County, declared a “Water Shortage Emergency Condition" in June of 2021. And 2022 began with the driest first three calendar months in state history, which has only made things worse. Because of this dire condition, it is important that residents of Santa Clara County understand the systems, both natural and human-made, that provide them with the water they use each day to drink, cook their food, wash their clothes, and bathe. We need volunteers to help at our kick-off event for a month-long program that combines the joys and benefits of riding bikes with education about Valley Water’s expansive water delivery system. Different volunteer roles have varying time commitments between 7am and 1pm. Site volunteers Food table – 2 volunteers - 7am - 11amCheckin - 2 volunteers - 7am - 11am2 Bike Ambassadors - 7am - 11am2 photographers - 8am - 12pm4 Parking volunteers - 7am - 10amRide volunteers 2 ride leaders for 11 mile rec ride - 9am - 1pm2 ride leaders for 5 mile family ride - 9am - 1pm4 assistant leaders for 5 mile family ride - 9am - 1pmThe kick-off includes breakfast munchies, ice cream, a tour of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, and a choice of either a 5 mile guided family friendly bike tour from the Advanced Water Treatment plant to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Environmental Education Center OR a longer 11 mile guided bike tour to some additional notable water landmarks. All volunteers will be entered into a special volunteer raffle for a gift card to a local bike shop! Must attend to win. (Employees of SVBC and Valley Water may participate but are not eligible for any prizes). If we get enough volunteers, volunteers may also take the tour of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center from 9:30-10:30am.
