Job Description The Sexton is a full-time salaried position with normal working hours M-F 9AM-5PM. There are occasional circumstances where the sexton is called upon to work evening or weekend hours and in these situations compensatory time off during the week is provided. The Sexton is employed by the Dean and reports to the Cathedral Administrator. The person in this role has general responsibility for the maintenance, security, cleanliness and mechanical systems of the Cathedral physical plant and grounds. Responsibilities included but are not limited to cleanliness and security, structural and mechanical preservation of the Cathedral, code and other regulatory compliance requirements. Daily Opening and closing of the facility (M-F) Inspect and maintain cleanliness of all areas. This includes such duties as sweeping, dusting, washing windows, minor repairs, painting as needed, carpet and floor cleaning and related functions. Weekly Empty garbage in all 1st Floor areas and from front of Cathedral Vacuum first floor offices Pick up Choir Room and empty garbage Vacuum and empty garbage from second floor offices Confirm that the Cathedral and Chapel are in good condition for Sunday Wet mop Stuart Hall and Martin Room Mop kitchen floors Clean and mop all facility restrooms Walk the Cathedral lawn, 6th Street, Carondelet Street, and parking lot to pick up and remove litter and debris Clean Bishop’s Courtyard of all leaves and debris Keep restrooms and kitchen stocked with paper products and other staple supplies Attend Staff meeting (Tuesday) General Setup and removal of tables/chairs for events and meetings Moving flowers, and liturgical objects (brass candles, lecterns etc.) as needed Facilitate: Vendor deliveries Access and support to contractors and service personnel (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscapers film crews,) Respond as needed to all facilities emergencies Provide status updates on facilities operations within weekly staff meetings and Property Committee meetings (as directed by Cathedral Administrator) Develop and maintain inventory of supplies (non-office) and equipment, Coordinate volunteer efforts as needed Secure the facility in the case of an Impending storm system. Provide access to Insurance adjustors as needed. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Administrator
