Learn more about the culture on campus here: The Role Reporting directly to the Vice President for Administration/CFO, the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management is the key University officer responsible for Facilities Management and a critical member of senior administration working in support of the overall academic mission of the University. The incumbent has primary management and leadership responsibility for facilities planning, construction, operation, maintenance and repair, management of building space, and oversees over 200 employees. The AVP plays an instrumental role in cross-functional future planning, as well as the maintenance of strong relations with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, city, county, and other agencies. The Associate Vice President serves on University and system committees and acts as liaison to the system office for planning, design and construction projects. The position represents the University for facilities matters at city, county, and state government levels and to the legislative branches of government. What you will be doing: Strategic Management and Oversight of Facilities Management Operations Provides strategic and overall management, supervision, and professional direction for facilities planning and design, construction projects, space utilization, utilizes distribution, and facilities maintenance and repair. Develops short- and long-range plans to improve service, productivity, energy, conversation and overall effectiveness. Administers budgets for operations, deferred maintenance, and major/minor capital outlay Responsible for the development of the annual budget for Facilities Management, exercises control over expenditures within the approved budget. Provides leadership for effective personnel operations including recruitment, classifications, salary adjustments, discipline procedures, and administration of bargaining unit contracts. Responsible for the overall management of an effective employment, orientation, training and development program for managers and support staff personnel. Provides consultation to campus community on physical plant development in response to enrollment and growth Coordinates current and future programs and projects with CSU system Office of Capital Planning Design & Construction, the campus architect, and consulting architects and engineers Oversees and manages the development and revision of the campus master plan Develops and recommends procedures for improvement of facilities and utilities systems, and management of operations Oversight of Campus Planning and Capital Outlay Plan Develops the 5-year capital outlay plan, and annual minor capital outlay plan Serves on various University and system committees, e.g., Campus Facility Planning Committee, Council on University Planning, Space Planning Advisory Group, and University Administrative Council Oversees preparation and presentation of building design to campus committees, the Chancellor’s office and the Board of Trustees Oversees the review of plans and specification for all new construction and recommends modification based on operational and maintenance requirements Develops and maintains appropriate contacts to facilitate necessary coordination with local and state-wide government officials. Interacts with the Department of Finance, Legislative Analyst, and local legislators, when appropriate, in support of the University capital program. What you will bring: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Construction, or a field related to the responsibilities of the position. Extensive facilities management experience acquired through increasingly responsible positions over a period of at least 8 years in a college/university or comparable environment of similar size and complexity. Financial management experience overseeing complex budgets with various funds. Experience as a supervisor or manager in a large and complex organization Experience coordinating with multiple entities to accomplish master plans and multiple and complex construction projects from conception to completion in a centralized and highly regulated environment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of physical plant operations and construction management requirements. Leadership skills, including conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of process improvement and ability to streamline operations, promote cultural change, and build teams through redesign of business practices.
