Beautiful puppy Dawn is 6 months old, and now 26 pounds. We think she will be about 35 - 40 pounds when fully grown. She has a lovely red & white coat, probably a Husky/Shepherd mix, and has the sweetest personality with lots of good puppy traits: - doing very well with her house-training; - great on her crate-training; - sleeps peacefully in her crate at night; - knows sit, down and ready to learn more; - loves people, is great with everyone and with other friendly dogs; - loves doggy play dates and would do well with a dog buddy at home; - loves to play with dog toys; - likes to chase her little Kong ball; - rides perfectly in the car; - great when getting a bath; loves to go for a walk on a leash; - knows how to use a doggy door; - content to relax on her doggy bed and just hang out with the family to watch TV. She is ready for a new loving home in a family with big hearts because she has a special food supplement requirement, and that will add about $76 a month to the budget. Dawn ended up at a shelter, brought in as a stray dog. She was in very bad shape, very skinny, and nearly starving. After medical tests we learned that her pancreas doesn’t make digestive enzymes, and that's why she was so skinny; her body wasn't getting nutrients out of her food. The condition is called EPI - Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, and it is quite manageable. What to do?... Add water to enzyme powder and mix it into her meals. The animal shelter reached out to SPOT Rescue knowing that EPI is manageable and that Dawn deserves to live. Dawn is doing great now, has gained weight, and is very much a typical, energetic puppy. She has two big dog buddies in her foster home and they all keep each other well-exercised. The prognosis is great for her to live a normal life with a vitamin B-12 capsule daily, and her enzyme powder mixed into her food. Her forever home should have someone able to mix, and let her food sit for about 20 minutes before giving it to her. Easy! Her adopter will need to purchase B-12 capsules, and the enzyme powder, approximately monthly, at a cost of about $76, so that cost needs to fit the family’s budget. No prescription foods are needed.
