Hi! I'm building a yurt in my backyard and am trying really hard to get it finished before the rains come. I've been pretty optimistic that I can do this, but it's getting late in the summer and I'm starting to get more nervous about my ability to complete it in time.
The project is a mix of part assembly and part construction - some of the parts just need to be set up, and some of the parts need to be built. That is to say, it's a bit of a "Frankenyurt". I have the top cover salvaged from a 24' yurt, the lattice and canvas walls from an old 20' yurt, the dome and door of another 24' yurt, and with those, I am actually building a (just shy of) 16' yurt. I'm also installing a salvaged bay window that will be framed in with more traditional construction.
The rafters will just be regular 2x6's and I'm currently building the compression ring out of reclaimed 2x6 boards salvaged from someone's old deck.
Speaking of decks... The deck for the yurt is already done and was constructed of almost entirely salvaged materials. That's it in the pictures.
I could use some help pulling this all together as the summer quickly fades. So if you would like some experience building a yurt, particularly one as unconventional as this one, please let me know! I have all the tools we should need, and I'm happy to teach you to use them, so no experience needed. Many hands make light work.
I don't have much to offer beyond the experience though. So I can't pay you, but I can feed you. Pizza, Thai, etc. If you really need some money, I could pay for your gas or something, but we should work that out ahead of time so I can be sure to have it.
Also happy to just show it to you if you want to see. I'm so proud of it! Totally geeking out over it as I work. :)
Thanks for considering helping me out, and please know ALL are invited to help.
