Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) is interested in hiring a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to assist blind and visually impaired students achieve their greatest level of independence. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or higher, current ACVREP certification, and eligibility for O&M licensure from the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED). This is a full-time, 9-month position working on a residential campus with students ages 3-21, some of whom have multiple disabilities. This position will be open starting October of 2022. The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired was founded in 1903 as a land grant school governed by a Board of Regents. Three years later, the school opened its doors in Alamogordo, New Mexico with 21 students, two teachers and a superintendent. It is a specialized school which provides residential, academic, support, and outreach services to the students who are blind and visually impaired in New Mexico.
