Description
Community Democracy in Action (CDA) is hiring Canvassers Community Democracy in Action is a fiscally sponsored project of Sustainable Economies Law Center (SELC) and is co-managed by volunteer members of the Community Democracy Project (CDP). Job Description The Community Democracy Project is about to launch the People’s Budget Initiative to revolutionize Oakland’s financial landscape. The People’s Budget Amendment is the Community Democracy Project’s campaign to put Oakland residents in charge of the city budget through participatory budgeting. For that purpose, we are hiring activists that want to make a difference within the grassroots movement. The Community Democracy Project (CDP) promotes active citizenship, community learning, and direct democracy. Our voter initiative will change the Oakland City Charter so that we the people decide how our tax money is spent. There will be empowered neighborhood assemblies throughout the city where people can come together to discuss community issues and determine public priorities by directly voting on the city budget. The time has come for public decision-making to include the voices of all! CDP was founded in the fall of 2011, and has grown to include a diverse cross-section of Oakland residents, community leaders, and activists. Over the years we’ve done extensive street outreach, heard from Oaklanders about the issues they care about, and what they would do if they were in charge of the city budget. It's clear: Oakland residents are ready for real involvement in crucial decisions, and have enough creative solutions to fuel the city for generations. In order to make real progress on issues that we care about we need to build a people-powered movement. People-power is built when hundreds and thousands of folks come together and make their voices heard. In order to put this on the ballot we will need to collect 40,000 signatures by September 2022. You will play a critical role ensuring the success of the People’s Budget. Our Canvassers will be those who educate the public on the campaign and mobilize constituents to elevate their voice and take action!
