The Building Coordinator makes sure daily building operations run smoothly and efficiently, and there is a safe and enjoyable environment for all. This is a hands-on position and the Building Coordinator makes sure our landmark historic building and all of its components work properly. This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week. Mondays we are closed. Please note that because we serve the community all jobs have changeable work schedules. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job. Essential Functions • Attend to building’s daily activities and ensure an efficient operation. Ensure staff, visitors and MCCLA’s compliance with environmental, security, and health standards. • Ensure building maintenance is carried out and track work/projects, what’s completed and what needs to be completed. • Perform minor repairs as trained, or identify and recommend appropriate and cost effective support. Respond to issues with good judgment. When the task is above your skill level have it handled by a specialized technician. • Interface with City facilities and maintenance officials (DPW, RED), vendors and contractors. • Help to maintain inventory of MCCLA assets, and ensure historical archival materials are safely and securely stored. Develop and maintain physical inventory of equipment and tools. Ensure proper use, storage, maintenance, disposal/recycling of all equipment and supplies. Maintain keys, safety and security equipment. • Ensure gallery prep for installation and deinstallation. Safely move exhibitions, art, equipment, furniture, etc., as needed. • Coordinate MCCLA’s move from its current location. Assist with cost projections, space needs and logistics (e.g., organize/pack/ship/move) for establishing and maintaining an off-site space and other storage space needs. • Help to implement and maintain an effective injury and illness prevention program (IIPP), including emergency response. Schedule and run fire and other safety drills. Education and Experience High school diploma/GED. Current California Driver’s License desired. Broad technical knowledge, and basic knowledge of how to use standard hand tools and power tools. Skills/Abilities • Basic computer skills. Willing to try out new technologies and work tools. • Basic troubleshooting ability, and the ability to focus on minor details. • Self-sufficient—takes the initiative and completes work without undue supervision. • A successful track record in setting priorities; organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making. Keeps track of responsibilities and meets deadlines and goals. Physical Requirement • Considerable physical activity; heavy lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds. Must be focused and alert during shifts. Good with your hands and strong manual dexterity. • Ability to move around the property, repeatedly climb up and down stairs, and access areas quickly. May call for standing for prolonged periods.
