The Busted Jug Band
The Busted Jug Band: a five-piece comedic retro musical act. They primarily play obscurities from the 20s and 30s, such as works by the Memphis Jug Band, the Harlem Hamfats, both influential groups. The BJB also take inspiration for their homemade instruments and zany antics from artists like Spike Jones & His City Slickers, Hoosier Hotshots, Firesign Theater and the Marx Brothers. Men in mismatched, colorful suits and hats pepper corny jokes in between tight arrangements of kazoos, banjos, ukuleles, washtub bass, washboard, bulb horns, rubber chickens and so on. The Busted Jug Band is best experienced live, but they have released two "silent music videos" that capture the spirit of the band, as well as a CD and streamed album.
The Busted Jug Band has played venues around the Boston area (getting their start like so many others with a residency at Cambridge's famous Plough & Stars): the Narrows Center for the Arts (Fall River, MA), the Bull Run (Shirley), Amazing Things Arts Center (Framingham), 19 Carter (Berlin, MA), the Great Northeast Jug Band Festival (Arlington, MA) and this year they will be heading down to Louisville, KY for the annual National Jug Band Jubilee.
