Description
Zeus is an adorable, sweet, smart, affectionate lap dog with a good heart who is a very good boy. Like most street dogs from Mexico, Zeus looks like he is a mix of Lab/Pit, but he also looks like he has a bit of Great Dane in him. At 4 ½ years old and roughly 60#, he still has a lot of puppy left in him; he is curious about everything, very playful and has lots of energy but mellows out quickly if asked. He loves his ball and can play fetch all day long. He is potty trained and not a barker. Zeus has an unusual coat of white with light brown freckling, which is extremely soft. His eyes are golden buttons set in the most innocent looking face. We are not sure you could find a more loyal, affectionate companion than Zeus. This poor boy was in a shelter for over a year and a half and did not do well there. We were apprehensive about taking him on but from the moment we picked him up at the airport, he has been a completely different dog than described. He has shown no aggression toward us or any other human. He seems to have a low prey drive; he notices squirrels and cats while on walks but doesn’t pull to chase them. Although a little rough around the edges, Zeus is easily trained and looks to his people for guidance. He has learned so much about how to live in a house in the short time we have had him. Zeus walks well on leash, knows sit, stay, come, heal and leave it. He is crate trained; in that we used to put him in the crate at night but now we leave him in the TV room. He does nap in the crate sometimes during the day, but we have never put him in it when we leave the house. We are now able to leave him alone in the house and he doesn't get into trouble. Zeus would do well in a home with a person or people who are familiar with dogs and who can give him consistent guidelines. He spends most of the time entertaining himself but is an active dog so a good sized yard is a must. By all accounts of the volunteers at the shelter, he loves hiking. Zeus is not always great with other dogs but could do well with proper introductions. Zeus was abandoned in a little town in southern Baja. Before leaving Mexico, he was given a full medical assessment by a licensed veterinarian to insure he was in optimum health. We have his vaccination records. For further details please go to Cortezrescue.org. There is an adoption fee of $350, which covers his medical assessments, neutering, all shots and the cost of having him transported to Oregon. He is currently being fostered here in Portland. The fee is directly paid to Cortez Rescue. Please call me with any further questions you may have about this adorable guy: .
