PRINCETON, NJ — Mark Freda will be sworn in as the next mayor of Princeton at the council's annual reorganization meeting on Monday, at 5:30 p.m.
Freda will take over from Mayor Liz Lampert, who served an eight-year term and did not seek reelection.
In her outgoing message to the community, Lampert thanked everyone for their support during her tenure.
"So much of what we do as a government is an enormous team effort, and I am grateful for our first-class municipal staff, my tireless and committed Council colleagues and our many local partners who help make Princeton a healthier, more livable, more affordable, and more just community for all," she said.
"It has been a true honor and privilege to serve in this role for the past 8 years and I wish incoming Mayor Mark Freda and the Council great success in seeing us through the end of the COVID crisis and beyond," Lampert said in a statement.
Freda worked as President of the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad for two years and previously served on the Princeton Boro Council for 13 years. He was also Chair of the Joint Boro — Township Transition Task Force. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the College of New Jersey.
During the primary elections last year, Freda told Patch he was looking forward to being the next mayor of Princeton. "My entire adult life has prepared me for holding the position of mayor of Princeton. I have the experience and knowledge to address issues and needs day one," he said.
Apart from Freda, Princeton Council members David Cohen and Leticia Fraga will be sworn into office. They will be serving their second terms.
