Fort Collins and Larimer Sheriff's Department Stole my truck

Events

Fort Collins CO

Description

I was arrested late June for fugitive of justice. Cops towed my vehicle and gave me zero information about it. No receipts, nothing. I bonded out and they told me it was towed by CrossRoads Towing so I walked over to their location and they told me it was towed by them but to the police impound. I walked back to the sheriff's department and asked about it. They told me it was being held as evidence. Colorado doesn't hold vehicles for this, especially as evidence since no crime was committed here. I was told I need to contact a specific officer because of a chain of command. I spent a month playing phone tag without ever talking to anyone. They lied to me. I need help finding a civil lawyer who can help me out in suing the two departments. Their negligence caused me to be homeless and I lost everything I owned. How can they do this? The DA for my case told my lawyer they can't hold anyone's vehicle under the pretenses they claimed. So, this is illegal. Is this a civil rights matter? Does anyone know of an attorney who can help me with this? I have no money as I lost my social security card, birth certificate, license, everything. I can't get a job because of them. Any help is much appreciated. Should I mention this to the local news? I have no idea how to go about holding them responsible.
