Open Mic Rules of Conduct
Performers:
Be on time for the sign up. Signups are at 5:00pm to 6:00pm
performances start at 7:30pm. Slots are limited. The order in which you
sign up is not necessarily the order of performance, nor will it guarantee
you get stage time.
Dress code is casual and clean. No undergarments, pajamas or ripped
shorts or hanging pants, or attire that is too revealing.
You will be given an average of 8 - 10mins stage time; however, the host
has the discretion to shorten or allow more time depending on whether
you are “bombing” or totally killing it. It's all about the performance.
Respect the “light” which is shown when you have 1 minute left of stage
time.
Be mindful of the type of venue LCCA is. Please have appropriate material
to perform, read, etc.…
Don't be intoxicated or on drugs when performing.
Use original material! Don't read off jokes you've seen on the internet, or
worse yet, stolen from another comedian! If you do you won't be allowed
back. Copyright is a thing. Don’t get yourself or us into trouble.
Remember that the success of your performance depends on audience
engagement. With that in mind bring at least two people with you if you
can. It's very helpful for the entire open mic to fill the floor.
Have a good time! We understand better than anyone that live stand-up
comedy, music performances, poetry readings, etc. is not easy. It takes
guts to get up on that stage and try. We will be as supportive of you as
possible, so break a leg!
