Join the Omar Bradley Chapter for our community partners and Life Members meeting. We are honored to have COL Johnny Sutton; 5th Armored Brigade Commander joins us to talk about what is happening with in the 5th Armored Bridge as they gear up to support deployments Colonel Johnny Sutton is a distinguished military graduate from the University of Tennessee at Martin and commissioned as a 2LT of Infantry. He most recently served as Chief of Staff for Defense Security Cooperation Management Office – Afghanistan. Colonel Sutton served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader in 1st Battalion, 502d Infantry at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After completing the Infantry Advanced Course, he served as the Adjutant, then the Battalion S-4, and A/52d (AT) Commander in 1-17 Infantry, 172d SBCT at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, deploying to Nineveh and Baghdad, Iraq. Upon re-deployment, he served as Commander, A/3-21 Infantry, and then Brigade Planner with 1-25 SBCT, deploying to Diyala, Iraq. Colonel Sutton commanded 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bliss, Texas with service in the Republic of South Korea. After Battalion Command, COL Sutton served as the Assistant Chief of Staff G3 (Operations) for 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 2009, COL Sutton attended CGSC and later SAMS at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon completion of SAMS, COL Sutton served as the Maneuver Planner for 1st Cavalry Division, deploying to Bagram, Afghanistan (Regional Command – East). Upon redeployment, COL Sutton served as the Operations Officer and then the Executive Officer for 2-5 Cavalry at Fort Hood, Texas. In 2014, COL Sutton served as the 3ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division Brigade Executive Officer. Colonel Sutton next served as a Warfighter Exercise Plans Chief for Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Colonel Sutton’s military education includes the Infantry Officers Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms Staff Services School, the Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, and the Army War College. Colonel Sutton’s military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the State Department Meritorious Honor Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Ranger Tab. Colonel Sutton is a member of the Order of St. Maurice, St. George, and St. Barbara. Colonel Sutton is married to the former Michelle Thomason of Brentwood, Tennessee. They have two children.
