Please join the Marysville Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League and Yuba Sutter Arts and Culture as we re-dedicate the Arboga Assembly Center Memorial Site to the 2,465 Americans of Japanese ancestry who were forcibly removed from their homes and incarcerated here beginning March 30, 1942.
They were our neighbors; men, women, and children of all ages whose only "crime" was to be born of Asian heritage.
On February 15, 2008, a redwood sign pointing the way to the former site of the Arboga Assembly Center was placed at the intersection of Broadway and Feather River Blvd. by the Friends for Preservation of Yuba County History.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Arboga Committee a plaque designating the site a California State Historical Landmark was unveiled on February 27, 2010.
The project remained dormant until 2020 when the Yuba Sutter Arts Council, working with the Marysville Chapter Japanese American Citizens League, began work on the memorial park thanks to a generous grant from the State Library through the California Civil Liberties Public Education program.
The project would not have been possible without the support of the Marysville Unified School District who graciously permitted use of their property for the Memorial Park.
