Description
The Nevins Library seeks a Custodian/Maintenance Technician. The Custodian/Maintenance Technician works under the direction of the Facilities Manager. Tasks are performed both inside and outside the Library building. Inside duties will include, but are not limited to, cleaning all areas, replenishing supplies, vacuuming, dusting, washing floors and carpets, emptying barrels, recycling, etc. Outside work will include cleaning up leaves and branches, emptying trash receptacles, planting, mowing, spreading mulch, shoveling, snow-blowing, and other snow and ice-clearing. Setting up rooms and outdoor areas for programs and meetings. Washing windows and glass is a regular activity. The Custodian/Maintenance Technician may also be called upon to paint, do light carpentry, and plumbing, change bulbs, etc. They also may be asked to assist patrons and staff with carrying books, boxes, pushing book carts, etc. Candidates should be able to lift minimum 50 lbs, climb ladders, make deliveries or pick up items.
The position is 40 hours per week, primarily afternoons /evenings and some Saturdays. The successful candidate should have a valid driver’s license and a High School Diploma or Equivalency. The person in this position should be responsible enough to work with minimum supervision at times, but also be able to work cooperatively as part of a team. The Custodian/Maintenance Technician must be able to be on call for emergencies when assigned. Ability to use equipment including lawn mower, snow blower, leaf blower, vacuum cleaners and other light equipment is required. The Custodian/Maintenance Technician interacts with co-workers and the public, so must have good communication skills and be friendly and helpful.
