Beanlandia is a unique community-driven project! We are going before City Council on Oct 6th (time TBD sometime 10am to 3pm) and really need supporters to come.... The Krewe of Red Beans is asking permission for Beanlandia to have : 1) a bar - not because we want a bar business, but because we want our members to socialize while crafting.... and having a beer or wine while crafting would be lovely.... 2) connected to the bar is a request to have live-music.... not to be a music club, but to have music as part of our museum programming..... we also want to hire local musicians more regularly.... 3) we need a parking waiver - our building is old (1929) and it's just not possible to get enough parking. City Plannign staff looked at our parking lot - and recommended that we not have one. They basically said the size of the parking lot would make it an unsafe parking lot.... with cars doing 9 point turns to get out . . . . so they recommend no parking lot. This makes the space good for programming... we also have worked out a deal with a nearby church for parking whenever we have bigger events :) ----- no bar = no regular music, we would be stuck with special events only (20times a year) no parking waiver = we cant open --- beanlandia needs your help!
