Course summary:
Boundaries are expectations that are intended to keep individuals safe in relationships. Healthy boundaries help people stay in their own lane and know what behaviors are anticipated to maintain well-being in the relationship. Boundaries are often misused or misunderstood.
Often in the dental office, boundaries are too loose or too rigid and result in miscommunication between team members. Chronic boundary violations can lead to feelings of burnout as it can feel exhausting to constantly feel unheard, ganged up on, or dismissed. Many dental professionals do not realize what boundary violations are being committed and how to respond.
This course will clearly define healthy and unhealthy boundaries and discuss 6 different types of boundaries. It will dive into why some people behave in a toxic manner at work and others feel ashamed to ask for what they want or need. Tactics and strategies from a clinical mental health standpoint will be offered to promote effective boundary setting and communication.
