Africana Studies Presents is a free, and open to the public speaker and performance series sponsored by the Center for Africana Studies and Culture at IUPUI and the Africana Studies Program. It seeks to showcase the richness, relevancy, and majesty of Africana culture. The series endeavors to enhance the student experience, welcome the surrounding community, and highlight the brilliance of the global Black context.
This event will be the Kick-off Lecture for the 2022-2023 series which will feature topics focused on Black health, equity, and justice in health care for Black people. The series will be co-sponsored by the Medical Humanities and Health Studies program in the School of Liberal Arts, and will also feature speakers from Center for Africana Studies and Culture’s Black Health Equity working group.
Dr. Ezelle Sanford III will give his lecture "Save Homer G. Phillips and All Public Hospitals": African American Grassroots Activism and the Decline of Municipal Hospital Care in St. Louis, MO." and answer questions from the audience post lecture.
