Description

We are excited to launch our latest exhibit and education initiative Dark Testament: A Century of Black Writers on Justice. AWM Members, teachers and educators can explore the exhibit before it opens to the public! Simply register for free and attend whichever date and time is best for you. Dark Testament opens to the public September 22. This immersive exhibit explores racial injustice in America through the work of Black American writers from the end of the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement. Featuring original artwork, augmented reality, and other interactive elements, Dark Testament brings the work of writers past and present to life in new and exciting ways. Dive into the work of prominent writers such as Frederick Douglass, Ida B. Wells, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin and more, as well as lesser-known writers like Pauli Murray, whose poetry collection titled Dark Testament inspired the name of the exhibit. You can also hear from contemporary writers like Imani Perry, Elizabeth Nunez, Jabari Asim, and more to understand how writers of the past influence current writing. More so, you can see how modern writers are still confronting many of the same racial injustices that their predecessors did. Not yet a member of the American Writers Museum but want to get this sneak peek and others like it? Become a member of the AWM today!
