Band Beyond DescriptionCrazy Horse PresentsAges 21+ It was a little over 50 years ago that the seeds were planted for what became one of the most coveted live records of all time – Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders “Live at Keystone.” The duo was playing in tiny bars around the Bay Area, quietly stretching boundaries in a totally different way than Garcia’s primary band – The Grateful Dead. Built on psychedelic blues, soul, funk, rock and of course jazz, the duo was a rock-solid brotherhood which took flight along with John Kahn on bass and other unsung heroes of the time. Fast forward to now and we bring you a Keystone tribute as part of our regular Third Thursday programming with Band Beyond Description. This event features quite the dynamic duo in their own rite – Jonny Mojo on guitar and Gary Campus on drums. Joining them for some serious authenticity is Tony Saunders on bass (Merl’s son) and the always extraordinary Scott Guberman on keys. A chip off the old block, Saunders is one of the funkiest bassists you’ve ever seen. “Gubes” – widely considered as the best GD/JG keyboardists in the west – makes every song soar.
