This two day in-person event will introduce participants to what it means to think and reason mathematically, including learning about six areas (conceptual processing, visual-spatial processing, language, attention, organization, and memory) that students must access when thinking mathematically. They will engage in a reasoning routine and reflect on the accessibility areas they called upon when thinking mathematically. They will unpack the routine and analyze how five research-based instructional strategies (ask yourself questions, sentence frames and starters, annotation, the Four R’s, and turn-and-talks) woven throughout its design provided access to and supported the mathematical thinking. Lastly, participants will plan to use a routine in the classroom. They will leave ready to facilitate the routine and support strategies with students.
Breakfast, lunch, and parking will be provided at no cost to attendees on both days. Discounted room accommodations are available at the Hilton Arden West Sacramento.
