Love at first bite! Learn how to make french macarons using the french meringue method. Love at first bite! Learn how to make french macarons using the french meringue method. This is a hands-on course led by Kate Smith, owner of Kate Smith Soirée. We will also demonstrate 2 filling recipes that are easy to make at home and sure to please a crowd. We will discuss meringue techniques, piping techniques, bust myths and much more! You will work in groups of 2 to create, from start to finish, your own 15-count gift box of macarons to take home. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided and there will be an intermission during the baking portion to allow attendees to get lunch/dinner at the market if they choose to. This class is for all ages, but for those participants 21 and older: one glass of champagne will be included with your ticket if you want. The instructor will check your ID before serving alcohol. Additional alcohol can be purchased at Topp'd Pizza and Salads or Chewology. Come ready to learn and prepare to have a great time! GROUPS: Students will work in groups of two. Because this class is for pairs, each ticket is for an increment of two seats. You can purchase the ticket: Table for TWO or Table for FOUR. *There's a discount when you purchase a table for FOUR people. *Tickets must be sold like this because due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we will no longer pair strangers together. Invite a friend or family member to take the class with you! *Macarons are naturally gluten-free, but do contain tree nuts and eggs. About the instructor: Kate Smith is the owner of Kate Smith Soirée. She first learned to make macarons during her travels abroad in Italy 4 years ago, and she's been baking ever since! She graduated with a hospitality management degree from Oklahoma State university, and she officially started her macaron business in October 2018. She recently opened her permanent location at the Lenexa Public Market June 22, 2019. TICKETS AND ADMISSION: No tickets are issued for classes. Your name will be on an attendee list in The Kitchen. Admission to the kitchen will begin at the scheduled class start time. CATEGORY: Technique and Skill CLASS FORMAT: Combination of Instructor-Led with class participation SKILL LEVEL: Beginner RECOMMENDED PARTICIPANT AGE: 16+ Participants under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult with their own seat. COVID-19 UPDATE FOR CLASSES: In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve updated our procedures for classes. This includes, but is not limited to: In accordance with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order mandating mask usage means that you’ll need to wear a barrier face mask while attending a class at the Public Market. The only exception is people are exempt from wearing a mask “while they are eating or drinking, provided they maintain a 6-foot distance between individuals.” Barrier face masks will be available for participants who do not have their own.We’ve limited class sizes to accommodate social distancing. Participants will be spaced six feet apart from each other, and will not be required to work with anyone outside of the person/people they came with. Participants who are taking a class with a friend or family member etc. will be seated together.We thoroughly clean all the tables, chairs, and equipment before and after each class.Limits on class size will be in accordance with state and county guidelines.Check with individual instructors on any specific class expectations.Your patience and understanding during this time is appreciated. REFUNDS: We do not offer refunds for this class. If you cannot attend a class for any reason, you are welcome to send someone in your place. Please let us know as soon as soon as possible so the registration list may be updated along with any allergy information. *All classes are subject to rescheduling or cancellation (which would result in a full refund). *Recipes and ingredients are subject to change based on availability. ALLERGIES/SPECIAL NEEDS: The Lenexa Public Market and demo kitchen is not an allergy-safe environment. Common cooking and baking ingredients used in classes may not be specified in class/menu titles. Food allergies and/or special needs must be stated in detail on the registration form. Best efforts will be made to accommodate those allergies and needs when known in advance. Recipe adjustments cannot be made during classes. PARKING: Free parking is available on-site in a City of Lenexa parking garage. FOOD/DRINK: Featured recipes prepared in the class will be sampled. We will have a water station available in the kitchen. Other beverages are available for purchase in the Market. PERSONAL BELONGINGS: All equipment and ingredients for the class are provided. Coat racks will be available for jackets and purses. If perishable items purchased at the Market need to be refrigerated, please notify the class instructor or Market attendant when arriving for the class. PARTICIPANT EXPERIENCE: Please come to class prepared to have some fun and learn a few tips. Group interaction and socializing (at a distance) will be part of the classes, but please be respectful to instructors and fellow attendees to help ensure everyone has a great time.
