Description
It seems conservatives will stop at nothing to push false narratives.
In his early years Byrd was involved in the KKK but later in life, long before the time the picture in your post was taken, he demonstrated an opposing viewpoint regarding the KKK. It was during these later years that pic was taken.
From a 2010 article:
"Byrd changed his mind later in life. In some respects, that change seems to have been politically motivated; maybe it was only politics at first. In 1997, he had this advice for up-and-coming politicians: "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck. Once you've made that mistake, you inhibit your operations in the political arena."
W A S H I N G T O N, March 5, 2001 -- Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., apologized for his use of a racial epithet in an interview broadcast Sunday.
Asked about race relations today, the 83-year-old Byrd said in the interview taped Friday with Fox News Sunday that they are “much, much better than they’ve ever been in my lifetime.... I think we talk about race too much. I think those problems are largely behind us.”
So you have a pic of an old retired senator who has renounced involvement with the KKK in the presence of two other senators and you think this means they are all racists. You're so gullible!!
Nice try but no win today on your false narrative.
