DETROIT — A mother is in trouble after her 10-year-old son fatally shot his 8-year-old sister with an unsecured gun inside a Detroit home Tuesday, Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said. Erica Sade Graham, 31, was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree child abuse and three counts of felony firearm, officials said. Graham was placed in the county jail and given a $150,000 bond. If released, she must wear a GPS tether with home confinement, officials said. Her next court date is set for Sept. 30. Police said the 10-year-old found the unsecured gun Tuesday inside a Detroit home at 11:52 a.m. on the 8840 block of Heyden Street and fatally shot his 8-year-old sister when the mother was away from the home. The young girl was taken to a local firehouse by either her mother or neighbors, before officials took her to a nearby hospital where she died, police said. "We've got to get tired of this. There's no words I can say - you've heard me say all of the words that I can say about this," Detroit Police Chief James White said. "It's tragic. I've got an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old in a house with an unsecured weapon. I've got kids that should be in school so it shouldn't have happened." Detroit Police have responded to multiple child-related shootings in the city this year, including a 2-year-old boy who found an unsecured gun and shot himself in the head and a 13-year-old who was fatally shot by a 12-year-old.
