Description
Woodstock/Monterey '67 themed project seeks the following: Female lead and harmony vox -- Mamas and Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin for lead / CSN&Y, Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, Monkees, It's a Beautiful Day, Joe Cocker, Stealers Wheel for harmony / Sly and Family Stone for support vox. Rhythm/Lead guitar -- not a lot of overt lead material, especially if split/shared between 2-3 players: Santana, Cream, Hendrix, Doors. However, there are 2-3 Allman Bros tunes that would certainly warrant a good bit of twin harmony attention, with shared solo opportunities there, as well. The remaining material is pretty straightforward, some with rich vocal harmonies. Plenty of room for shared lead male vox, as well. Keyboard player -- heavy B3 palette throughout. Occasional Doors/Sly Stone/Billy Preston organ territory. Handful of of horn/orchestra textures. Lead/harmony vocals a plus. Bass guitar -- had been in talks with a very nice local player, but unfortunately he wound up moving out of state. Lots of adventurous material overall, with a couple of straight-up old school funk tunes (James Brown, Sly Stone). Lead/harmony vox a plus. Drums -- I'll be upfront here. I've been a drummer for over 40 years (now on guitar and vocals). And I can say with a fair degree of confidence that a traditional classic rock background will likely not be enough to cover this material, and would probably necessitate a larger background in jazz and funk, and backbeat skills of the 50-60s. Vocals also a plus. Percussion -- while it's easy to overlook this, there's ample room for light percussion throughout the entire proposed songlist. With spotlight moments during Santana/James Brown/Sly Stone material and opening/closing tunes. Looking to be part of a true musical family, a place to hang my proverbial hat, playing great music with people I genuinely admire and respect. Here's a couple of recent vocal vids, featuring one of the tunes on the songlist: https://www.facebook.com/100000547516997/videos/857399518956377/ https://www.facebook.com/100000547516997/videos/1109072840028276/ Mea Culpa disclaimer: apologies to those who responded to the initial post a few months ago. At the time, this was just a loose idea, as well as being a motivation to come out of semi-retirement. I overlooked a lot of variables, and came at this with an over-abundance of idealism and naivete. And in the interim, I also encountered unexpected guitar rig setbacks that took a while to sort out. To my credit, I have a rather fertile imagination and a deep reservoir of creativity, which translates well to band logo design, band photos, promo materials and related matters. Unfortunately, I have way more experience playing gigs than booking them, which is a shortcoming I need to seriously improve upon. As such, I welcome any and all suggestions, advice, counsel and guidance from those kind enough to offer. Looking forward to hearing back!
