Over 30K Will County Residents Register For COVID-19 Vaccine

WILL COUNTY, IL — As the COVID-19 vaccines start being administered in Will County, almost 33,000 residents have registered with the Will County Health Department to get the vaccines when they become available to them. Residents are asked to fill out an online survey that will help the health department prepare for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. Questions contained in the survey were developed from limited and preliminary guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Other than asking for personal information, questions in the survey pertain to assessing whether you are a health care/ front line worker, if you have pre-existing health conditions and if you live or work in a long-term care facility. The CDC recommends that after health care workers and long-term care facility residents get the vaccine, the next group should have people age 75 and older and essential workers, such as police, firefighters and teachers. After that, those between the ages of 65-74 and those with certain underlying health conditions need to be vaccinated. WCHD, however, wants to let residents know that it will take some time for those who have registered to get emails detailing when and how they can get vaccinated. Will County has received two shipments of more than 12,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine and almost 5,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The county will get more Pfizer vaccines soon.
