We are looking for a reliable, self-assured marine service technician in the Naples area to perform maintenance and repairs on a Chaparral 257 Ssx. The marine service technician's responsibilities include regular inspection and testing of engine, batteries, propellers, and steering mechanisms, as well as replacing valves and bolts. You should also be able to purchase the required tools and supplies. Will not restart CORRECTION: Arrived at vessel found stater won’t engage and tum over engine. When starter is activated. it spins freely and makes a grinding noise. Turned engine over by hand spun easily almost like compression in down. Heard stater gear drop down after spinning motor manually. After this did get the starter to turn motor a few revolutions, motor sounded like was grinding internally. Then stater would not engage again after that Will need to r&r starter assy, take compression readings after that to determine the health of the engine internally. Then can proceed further with this motor after these results are known, R&R starter assay as routed set up engine for comp checks. Engine does spin over now and does not have the grinding noise heard before the starter replacement Performed comp checks the results are as follows: #1-170, #3-155, 5-170, 87-170, 82-170, 4-170, 6-170, 38-165 all plugs looked fouled, deaned as required. Reinstalled all plugs final on required. Tried to start engines no luck So checked fuel pressuris ck 42psi, then 37psi engine spinning. Found no spark to cylinders Removed a plug and found wet with fuel confirmed, Will need to replace coll, i would suggest cap, rotor, plugs, and wires as well.
