Description
Hi! I am a local San Francisco poet and English teacher with a passion for Creative Writing Workshops and Labs. I have been dreaming of starting a writing group, creating classes, and curriculums to offer to the local SF Sunset community. I've finally found the time and space to start building it. I hope you consider joining. I hold a BA in Creative Writing from SFSU, and an MFA in Writing from USF. In addition, my poems have been published in numerous small and medium sized publications and I've worked on a handful of literary magazines. I am an excellent workshop leader and hope to organize a group of new and experienced passionate writers looking to either, explore their creativity on the page for the first time in a formal space, or for experienced writers looking to polish their skills and get back into it! In any case, writing workshops are a great place to build community and learn something new about yourself and the world. With my knowledge and network of professional writers, I have an extensive archive of writing resources and syllabi to offer. This is just the beginning! In everything I do, I want it to be of the highest quality. The classes - $250 total for: Tuesdays 6-9 pm -10 open spots - 6 total classes Wednesdays 6-9 pm -10 open spots - 6 total classes Thursdays 6-9 pm -10 open spots - 6 total classes The classes can only launch if enough people sign up - after which, I will gauge interest on an overarching theme for each class which will inform brief lectures given by myself on the craft of writing. By studying specific craft elements through examples and essays on craft, the class can have a subtle north star to consider as they write and workshop. For instance, a class might be built around something like, "Minimalism & Imagery in Writing." Or, a class might be built around, "Dialog, Make it Fire & Flow!" Another example might be "Mary Oliver and Nature Poetry - How Observation Captures Truth." If this sounds fun, sign up! As I mentioned once a class fills up, I'll ask for payment and we can start. The classes and ice-breaker will start virtually, but hopefully classes can be held in person, or in a hybrid setting. Warmly, M.H. Lopez
