OAK FOREST, IL — A man was found dead early Tuesday morning in Oak Forest, police Chief Jason Reid said in a statement. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the 37-year-old's death a homicide.
The man has been identified as Mark Stanfield, according to the examiner's office. Stanfield died of multiple sharp force injuries, confirming what police are investigating as a homicide, the office reported.
Around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, police said officers headed to the 15300 block of Knox Avenue, after receiving a call reporting a domestic disturbance. Police said when officers got there, they found a man who was dead. A woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Patch reached out to Reid on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon for more information. On Tuesday, Reid said due to the nature of the investigation, the department was unable to disclose how Stanfield died, or why the woman was taken to the hospital. On Wednesday, Patch did not receive a response.
Reid told Patch Tuesday that everything pertaining to the investigation is still in preliminary stages, and that police hope to disclose more information in the upcoming days.
