Would you like to know how to identify, harvest, store, and make flour from mesquite beans? If so, this is the hands-on workshop for you.
We will process mesquite beans for 1 1/2 hours (separate twigs from beans, then bag the bean pods) while enjoying prickly pear and mesquite tea. The last half hour will be a demonstration of exactly how to most easily and efficiently grind the beans into flour.
Learn tidbits of mesquite history and ethnobotany. I thank the local tribal people, Akimel O'odham and Tohono O'odham, for passing on the respect and use of the Mesquite Beings.
Mesquite beans have been human food for 300 generations! How could we possibly know that? Hmm . . . see if your answer is right at the workshop.
Sunday, Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m. in Ahwatukee
$10 per ticket. I will give you $10 cash when you come to the workshop. So, basically free. But this way you'll remember to attend!
