Voice of Culture is a Black space for the practice of cultural arts. I, Kenna, started Voice of Culture in 2008 when my drum colleague/teacher Brother Patrice moved back to Angola. I have learned so much over the years and now I am really dedicating some time and energy to passing the information along.
We will start in a circle, check in and then get to drumming and dancing. Drum basics: bass, tone, slap, or using the doun sticks. We start with Kassa for the warmup, then we will do Yamamah and Tiribah. I'll teach what I know. We will all learn at least one drum/percussion part and the songs i know for Kassa and Yamamah. (I don't know a Tiribah song yet). Dance moves will be done the traditional way; until the break, and I will also teach a combo with each dance.
