DEARBORN, MI — As of Wednesday, parents who drop their Fordson High School students off on Ford Road can expect a $175 ticket, Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. Shahin said the crackdown is necessary because it's too dangerous to stop on Ford Road, as cars are driving over 40 miles per hour. The move comes after police received multiple complaints from drivers, saying sometimes the kids are dropped off from the left and center lanes on the road. Officials plan to turn Horger Street, which runs along the west side of the school, into a one-way northbound lane to help facilitate safer drop-offs, Dearborn police said. Shahin told WXYZ that officials are looking into expanding the traffic control measure to the city's other high schools as well. "We're going to start here at Fordson, but I think we are going to replicate the same thing at our other high schools, so we can make sure we have a safe way to get our kids to school across the city," Shahin said.
