Join The Harvest Collective for an inspiring night connecting the dots of food waste diversion, food sovereignty, good times, and economic justice. A ticket is $40 and all proceeds will go towards building Roanoke City's first composting facility. This event will feature: Presentations about the new compost facility project - called Star City Compost, the chicken coop leasing program, community forest garden consultations, and the business plan of The Harvest Collective. A local food dinner prepared by The Harvest Collective Music performances by Jordan Harman, Bernadette 'BJ' Lark, and Davey StewardsCommunity acupuncture led by Stephen Kirbach and Morna ChildersKombucha on Tap from the co-lab Since 2019, The Harvest Collective LLC has been pursuing Roanoke City's first legally permitted compost facility. At capacity, this facility will divert nearly 5 tons of food waste/week from the City and 275 tons of food waste per year. While the group is in the process of filing for their permit with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, they are also soliciting foundational investors for the new subsidiary LLC - Star City Compost - which will own the assets of the facility and provide equity investment of 10% annual ROI. The Harvest Collective has also been active in consulting for and creating community forest gardens and chicken coops. In working with the University Virginia Law Center, the group is receiving support for how to best organize their various ecologically based business activities to provide for more community ownership in the local food system.
