04 November, 2022

Description

There will be a brief introduction about owls lead by Frank Gallo, a leading bird expert and author, followed by a guided walk with Mr. Gallo through the portion of the Ewen Preserve that has an identified area known for a variety of owls. We want to give you the experience of seeing and/or hearing these magnificent wild owls. Species that are most often heard are Barred and Eastern Screech Owls, but Northern Saw-Whet Owls, Great Horned Owls and even Long-Eared Owls are also possible. DRESS WARMLY! Sturdy waterproof boots or shoes, jackets, sweaters, hats and mittens are not overkill for this outdoor evening activity. The grounds can be wet, and the temperatures cool within the wooded area. Reminder to participants that “quiet” must be observed during the walk so as not to frighten the owls. The walk is about an hour, followed by hot chocolate and snacks provided by OCC, as we discuss the evening’s experience. This event is recommended for ages six and up, and those who are capable of walking over uneven and/or rocky terrain. Space is limited and is based on first-come first-serve basis.
