Description

Come learn from Casper and Ollie of A.B.O. Comix Collective (@a.b.o.comix) about building relationships of solidarity with LGBTQ+ people in prison at our letter-writing workshop! A.B.O. Comix works with over 300 queer, trans, and HIV+ artists in prisons nationwide, and we make sure to celebrate our inside collective members every year for their birthdays! Drop in anytime from 2-4pm to fill out a bday card or two, learn the ropes of writing with folks inside, get to know the incarcerated artists we work with and see if you'd like to become a pen pal! We'll have all the necessary supplies on hand; all you'll need to participate is an open heart and a willingness to try something new. Saturday Sept 24th2 - 4 pmFree but donations accepted to support the organizersAbout the OrganizersA.B.O. Comix is a collective of creators and activists who work to amplify the voices of LGBTQ prisoners through art. By working closely with prison abolitionist and queer advocacy organizations, we aim to keep queer prisoners connected to outside community and help them in the fight toward liberation. The profits we generate go back to incarcerated artists, especially those with little to no resources. Using the DIY ideology of "punk-zine" culture, A.B.O. was formed with the philosophy of mutual support, community and friendship. Hot Stuff Studios is a Queer femme owned boutique and community space showcasing amazing small businesses + artists from the Bay and beyond. They offer a range of workshops, intimate concerts, and events to honor Queer creativity in the East Bay + sell work from 50 local (mostly Queer) artists.
