In this workshop, you'll learn how to identify key elements of a braided essay and gain experience developing your own.
Together we'll write on a personal story, memory, or lived experience,
draw inspiration from found materials
and add dimension to our story by braiding in a thread otherwise unseen.

Materials Needed:
Pen and paper will be available, though feel free to bring your favorite writing materials.

About the Instructor:
Taylor Imel is a nonfiction essayist based in Chicago. She studies matriarchal stories and uses elements of research, like maps or stage directions, to thread these stories to the natural world.
Taylor holds a BA in Acting and Creative Nonfiction Writing from Columbia College. Previously, she led a workshop on Researching the Essay at Heirloom Books, and a guest lecture on surviving as a writer in Chicago at Columbia.
