Description

Rain Date: October 30th Join us for a tree planting along part of the riparian section of our land off Belknap Brook Road in Tunbridge. We will be planting trees and shrubs that are native to Vermont and provide natural erosion control and other benefits for the brook. The planting will help make the land more environmentally-resilient to flooding caused by climate change. This is a chance to bring the community together so we can get to know each other, the land and the forest project better, while we plant the trees in their new home. There will be plenty of good conversations to be had with this hands-on event. Additional details: Registration is encouraged. The planting will start at 12:30 PM and wrap up around 3:30 PM.Folks of all ages are welcome! We encourage you to wear appropriate footwear. We will provide water, but please bring your own water bottle. Note that restrooms will not be available. Finally, this is a working farm so we ask that you leave your pets at home. About the Forest Management Project The Abenaki-led Forest Management Project combines indigenous knowledge with modern forest management and conservation practices, to create a balanced form of land stewardship. Two of the project's main focuses are the rematriation of native plant species that are culturally- and ecologically-important, as well as learning from the land to develop a deeper understanding of place. An Abenaki view of land and all of its inhabitants will help foster a reciprocal relationship with the environment that can repair past degradation and create future stability for communities.
