Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas (Allen) invites you along with your family and friends to join the 10-day long Navratri Utsav.
Navratri, an important festival in the Hindu tradition, spans nine nights and is celebrated for different reasons in various parts of India. It is celebrated in honor of the divine Mother Durga, who battled the demon Mahishasura (in the form of a buffalo) in each of her Avatars. On the sixth day, Mother Durga emerged victorious by slaying Mahishasura. These nine days are solely dedicated to Mother Durga and her nine Avatars – the Navadurga. Each day is associated with a different incarnation of the Divine Mother of the Universe.
Day 1: Shailaputri (avatar of Goddess Parvati)
Day 2: Brahmacharini (also the avatar of Goddess Parvati when doing severe austerities)
Day 3: Chandraghanta (avatar of Goddess Durga or Shakti)
Day 4: Kushmanda (avatar of Goddess Durga as Creator of the cosmic universe)
Day 5: Skandamata (avatar of Goddess Durga as the mother who takes care of all children)
Day 6: Katyayani (avatar of Goddess Durga as the slayer of inner demons)
Day 7: Kalaratri (avatar of Goddess Durga as the destroyer of inner darkness)
Day 8: Mahagauri (avatar of Goddess Durga who graces souls with peace and compassion)
Day 9: Sidhidatri (avatar of Goddess Durga who fulfills the wishes of devotees)
During this 9-day festival followed by Dusshera on the 10th day, devotees around the globe celebrate it in different ways. While some observe fasting rituals to purify the mind and body, others engage in special poojas and yajnas to invoke the blessings of the Divine mother. But one thing that is done without fail at the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas is to participate in traditional Garba and Dandiya Raas.
Invoke the blessings of the Mother of the Universe through opportunities for numerous types of sevas.
